On dating

I'll all for the influence of America, but can we please use a date convention that makes some sense?

I am referring to calendar dates.  According to Wikipedia [citation needed], only five countries in the world use the Month/Day/Year format for writing out the date.  Which makes no sense from any logical perspective.

Most countries go from big to small (Year/Month/Day) or small to big (Day/Month/Year), which is my preferred method.  Why did Americans just up and decide, "Hey, I'm going to put the medium value first, followed by the small, and then the big?"  And what were we drinking at the time?

Let's change the paradigm, people.  The good folks of Canada, Micronesia, Palau, and the Philippines are taking their cues from us.

Day/Month/Year!
